I have an iPhone 5 running iOS 9, and Bose QC-20i earbuds which I've been using since earlier this spring, mostly when traveling. No problems, before today.
Many days, I just use a pair of standard Apple earbuds. Today I took out the Bose earbuds for the first time since my early Sept vacation and discovered that the remote control switches (volume up/down, play etc) don't control my iPhone 5 any more. I hear sound OK but have to control the Music app and volume direction on the iPhone. Earbud buttons do nothing.
But the SAME Bose earbuds plugged into my iPad Air (iOS 9) and plugged into my iMac still controls things as expected with the remote switches. Just not on my iPhone 5. So this tells me the Bose earbud switches must be working ok, it can't be a hardware problem with those.
If I plug my standard Apple earbuds into my iPhone 5, the remote switch on that works just fine(!). I've tried rebooting the iPhone, a couple times. I've blown out any dust in the earphone jack with compressed air and cleaned the earbud plug connections, and retried all combinations with same problem still happening.
This tells me there's something strange going on specifically with the iPhone 5/iOS 9 + Bose combination.
It makes no sense but the only thing I can think of is something strange happened after updating the iPhone 5 to iOS 9 causing some sort of software incompatibility (I hadn't tried the Bose earbuds since then, until today when I noticed the problem).
anybody seen this? better yet, any suggestions how to fix?
