The S3 programs are all interpreted java code and will never run as fast as native iPad apps - even with a processor that's twice as fast.

Considering that the S3 running Jelly Bean beat the iPhone 5 on Geekbench by a considerable margin, I wouldn't put much weight on these benchmarks that are done with the S3 running Ice Cream Sandwich. When Jelly Bean officially comes out next month for the S3, then the benchmarks will be more accurate, with both phones running the latest version of their respective OSes.

Though it's worth pointing out that the iPhone 5 is faster than the S3, it's not something to gloat about. First of all, it's not the specs of an iPhone that keep it ahead of the competition in speed and fluidity, it's the fact that iOS is matched near perfectly to the hardware it runs on. The iPhone 5 is certainly a beast of a phone, but it will inevitably be passed up in raw specs by the next Galaxy S phone. And at that point, it would be a little hypocritical to pull the "optimized software" argument when you're touting superior specs now.

Just some food for thought. I would rather avoid an invasion of Fandroids (there are plenty on this site, strangely enough) trying to defend the S3 by attacking Apple fans.

From 9 to 5 Mac:

"For reference: the quad core Tegra 3-powered Nexus 7 scored a 1591 and the quad-core Samsung Galaxy S III scored 1560 in the test— narrowly missing the new standard for mobile devices. (Note: Galaxy S IIIs running Jelly Bean still outperforms the iPhone 5.)"

Other sites report the same. Here is a link to the Geekbench chart of the S3 running Jelly Bean:

Thanks for the links. That is what I would have expected with the global version of the SIII with the quad core processor.

That's true and then the next iPhone will blow that phone out of the water... And then they'll make another galaxy s6 or nexus s or whatever that blows the iPhone out of the water... It's a cycle... The fact that we can all agree on is that a phone gets better because of the technology that is present at the time of manufacturing... There is always going to be "the next best thing"... But what makes iOS so great, is the fluidity of it and the fact that apple just makes stuff that works. PERIOD. Can't really say that for the other companies...
