During the keynote, Apple claims that iPhone 5 is the thinnest phone in the world, and that made me wonder: Is it thinner than the Droid Razr? The Droid Razr is 7.1 mm (0.28 in) thick, while the iPhone 5 is 7.6 mm thick. Was Apple claiming that iPhone 5 is the thinnest phone in the world just a marketing gimmick? Or do they actually research this stuff?

I think they clarified it at the end of the keynote by saying that it's the thinnest phone they've ever shipped. The iPhone 5 is thinner than the RAZR HD, but not the RAZR as you point out.

In any case, it's thin enough for me!

Is it 7.1 at it's thickest point which is up top by the camera

Oppo finder is the thinnest

I'm pretty sure that one has a camera bump that makes it slightly thicker than the iPhone 5.....

of course, the iPhone 5 is not the thineest cell pone, because Apple will create the thinner iPhone 6, iPhone 6S.......
So we can just wait.......

I really would rather have it noticeably lighter vs thinner. Either way there's a 4" phone in my pocket but it would be nice to not have it feel like there is.

They said thinnest SMARTPHONE in the world. There may be thinner phones out there that are not smartphones.

I think it is the thinnest overall. The Razr's main body is thinner, but the hump up top makes it thicker, same with other phones.

Well, it did say "World's thinnest smartphone" on the keynote slides.

It may be the thinnest but it's not really an achievement. Take Galaxy SIII, cut battery in half, remove flash memory card (and port), remove NFC, remove wireless charging and it will be half the thickness of iPhone 5. But why would anyone want to do this? Just to be able to have a PR gimmick?

i think the RAZR is 10.5mm at thickest point, and the thickest point is what counts
