Thread title says it all, you can see the LCD backlight leaking through the top of the LCD screen whenever there is a dark image while the screen is on. The exposure of the photo makes it look a bit worse than real life, but it's still unforgivable. It was like this out of the box, not due to any phone damage.

I'm exchanging the phone today at the apple store. I'm sure they'll let me exchange it without any hassle, but just letting you all know about this.

AT&T 32GB black. Manufacturing week was 38. Purchased from apple.com.

Any opinions on doing a whole-box exchange vs. phone-only?

You'll have better luck with phone only. As I just said in another thread, refurbs go through some extensive tests.

With a phone from the Apple store he'll get a re-manufactured phone, not a refurb.
But either way, it should be pretty good. I wouldn't worry much, but make sure you do look at it before you leave.
