I have an iPhone 5 and it works well on 3G in 3G only areas. When in an LTE area, if LTE is off I can't ever get it to stay on 3G it seems, it usually shows the circle which means 2G I think. Why is this that I can't use the phone decently with LTE off?

I will get the circle on my phone but my Verizon iPad 2 that is 3G only, has a 3G signal in the same area.
