My 6 month old iPhone 5 has started to not instantly start charging on inserting the original lightning cable. I have to plug it out one or two times before it responds. Sometimes gives a message that" the accessory is not supported". Sometimes no message but doesn't charge. Any one facing the same?

Probably an issue with the lightning port or cable, bring both to the genius bar and they'll swap one/both out.

Vacuum out the lighting socket. There is likely detritus in there keeping it from making a good connection.

This tends to happen because of lint in your pocket.

Thanks to all for the hints. It doesn't happen all the time though. I have even tried my older cable with an adapter and sometimes does the same.

No water damage. Not even ever been dropped. That's how carefully it's been looked after ;)

3rd party charger and cable. Reset, restore as new, take back.

Clean out the lighting port carefully with a toothpick or paper clip. The port is too small to blow out debris with compressed air (at least that is my experience).
