My Iphone 5 isn't charging when plugged in the wall, and can only charge if the charger is in a weird position. Is this a hardware or software problem and how do I resolve it?

Definitely a hardware problem. Either you need to try a different outlet, or the cable you use with the charger might need to be replaced.

I had a similar problem and it turned out to be simply muck in the lightning port. The Apple Store cleaned it for me in just a few minutes.

What did they clean it out with? So i can do it in case of a future problem.

Sorry. I don't know how they cleaned it as they took it into the back of the store for a few minutes.

It certainly fixed my poor charging connection problem though!

I be read various remedies. Try a wooden tooth pick, qtip (though it may be too big), or some compressed air. I'm actually seeing more and more of these threads daily. This is maybe the fifth I've seen recently.
