A few years ago I bought an alleged 4GB usb stick from an ebay seller in Hong Kong. When it arrived, it said it was 4GB. The OS reported it was 4GB. Everything was fine until I put more than 252 Meg of files on the thing. It turns out it was a 256 MB memory stick "formatted" to appear like it had 4GB. Oh yeah I'm gonna order an iPhone 5 from Taiwan weeks before it's announced. Where do I sign?
