iPhone 5 pics not using all screen

Anyone notice that pics taken in landscape mode does use the entire 4 inch screen? Why? Or do I have a setting incorrectly done?

Because the screen is 16:9 and it takes pictures in 3:2 format, just like the older iPhones.

As the poster above mentioned, the sensor is a 3:2 aspect ratio. For video it covers the whole screen because it crops the sensor into 16:9
