It works 80% of the time. Sometimes requires a second press (giving me Siri instead of a screenshot), or if it's being cranky, it'll take a good 5 or 6 clicks until it wakes up or puts the phone to sleep. It's been like this for about 6 months, not enough to warrant a visit to the store, but enough to be annoying.

I have one day to either keep it or replace it with a refurbished device of unknown quality. What should I do?

If I recall correctly, the refurd should have 30-90 days of warranty on it too. I see no reason NOT to return it. A button like that would drive me crazy.

It's not that bad, it's just annoying enough to make me consider switching it out. I thought it might have been the fact that I was running an unlocked version of iOS 6, but after the restore to iOS 7 the problem persists. If i'd been willing to unjailbreak sooner, I wouldn't be doing this so last minute. But here we are.

Same happened to me. Widely known issue for the iPhone. Replace it. White box replacements have new externals and refurbished internals (and a new battery I think).
