Does the iphone 5 have stereo speakers?

Last night I was listening to a podcast and had my thumb over the holes to the right of the connector. I could not hear much. Then I tried music. same thing!

is sound supposed to come out of the holes to the left of the connector?

Thought I saw on a teardown that the iphone 5 should have two speakers, one on each side of the connector.

I have only had it about 3 weeks, can I get this fixed at the apple store?

Yes, it's clearly a defect, you should go to the closest store and refuse to accept the phone until you get one with two working speakers on the bottom. Please let us know how it goes.

Don't worry, one is a speaker and one is a microphone. They are not stereo speakers on the iPhone5 or any before it.

yep... should have done that.

Its the new mini pad that has stereo speakers...

And even that's a stretch in my opinion, haha. Two speakers right next to each other on the same side of the device do not = stereo speakers to me.

Stereo speakers indicate a separate speaker for each left and right channel. The stereo effect when spaced closely will be minimized, but by all standards, they are stereo speakers.

Oh yeah. Sorry I wasn't quite as clear but what you said is what I feel. You still get the left and right channels but the sound is still pushing to one side and not reaching your ears the same way.
