Iphone 5 restore issue

Is it possible to turn the device on when it isn't plugged into a charger / computer / whatever? If not, this is likely a hardware failure of the phone's logic board. Look into options such as warranty etc.
Assuming the phone can at least power on without a cable, what do you see on the screen? Try a different computer and lead - even if the cable you've got works for syncing, it may not be reliable enough for restoring.
