My wifes new iPhone 5 screen refuses to rotate.

Rotation lock is off. Restored and still the same.

Any suggestions or is this a hardware fault?

I had a similar problem with a previous ipad 3, it turned out the gyroscope was broken. Apple replaced it for me. If the rotation lock is unchecked and its not rotating could be a bad cake. Take it to apple and get them to check it.

Same issue here

I'm glad I'm not the only one with this problem. I've tried restarting, closing apps and locking/unlocking the rotation. But nothing works. The rotation simply does not work.

I'm going to my local Apple store tomorrow.

I would welcome that problem... I hate screen rotation. I cant stand when the screen flips when I dont want it to do so. I always have screen rotation locked. But that little icon annoys the hell out of me.

When I jailbroke my work phone (4S), I was able to hide it thankfully.
