I keep reading that the iPhone 5 ships on the 21st, is that correct? So if it ships on that Friday we will not receive it till the week after.

Past experience. They sometimes even appear on your door step a day before the official release day.

Yeah, pre-ordered last year and got it on release day bought thought the wording was different.
