Well I returned my original launch day iPhone 5 slate 32GB yesterday. I started noticing a terrible static sound coming from the earpiece when placing calls. Also the mic wasn't catching everything that I was speaking into it. The Google search app would display gibberish whenever I tried to use the "fantastic" voice search. Although Siri was almost always right on with what I spoke to it.
Anyway, the Apple store employee placed a call, listened and confirmed the issue. The phone was replaced with another (apparently brand new from what she said but I have my doubts) iPhone 5. The earpiece works and mic seems to work too. However there were cosmetic issues that I just noticed today. More small markings on the back and a scratch on the chamfer edge. I've also noted that the keyboard goes a bit wacky displaying the keys when pressing them at times and the brightness falls to zero after I lock the phone (occasionally not always). Those last two are software related. The wifi also seems to be much slower than the previous phone I had and apps load slower too.
She told me at the time of return that she has seen very few people return the phone with this type of issue. Trying to decide if I should return this one too or just live with it. Anyways just wanted to post my experience thus far with the iPhone 5 which is starting to disappoint me a bit.
