Weird article in Beatweek about a guy who got a pop-up notification saying "iPhone 5 being released today". Totally BS! But weird none the less.

"iPhone 5 be released this Tuesday” reads the mystery pop-up notification on one Beatweek reader’s iPhone 3GS. He doesn’t know where it came from and neither do we. But by “this Tuesday” the alert was referring to today, and as Apple hasn’t so much as introduced the iPhone 5, it won’t be going on sale before the sun sets today.

Is it me or are these rumors and speculations crazier this year than last year? Justifiably so, too.

And I know this is off-topic, but could someone PLEASE tell me what in the world the things at the start of some people's posts are. Like the thing on the OP's post, something that looks like this:

"Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8J2 Safari/6533.18.5)"

What the heck is that? Sorry for being off-topic :p

They get crazier every year, mate. As for your other question it is the script placed before a post which was posted from a mobile device using the mobile website. It actually fully describes what it is if you read it.
 
The unannounced release??? That'd be a first for Apple. We need the press event first.
 
I'm pretty sure someone here tried to fool us all with bull like this and it was just a message from FindMyiPhone or something.
 
IPhone 5? Im still waiting for this antenna redesign the iPhone 4 was getting according to 'whocaresit' who would post it day after day for months on these forums. Only on the internet eh? :D :rolleyes:

I was thinking the same thing. If it were me, I would have taken a screen shot the moment I saw it. But the whole thing is just ludicrous to begin with. It makes no sense, and even if there was a screen shot I still wouldn't have gotten too excited over it. I just thought it was another weird story to throw on the iphone 5 rumor fire...Or should I say INFERNO!
 
I got a message too this morning, seems legit. ;)

Rumors set that Apple will send out special event invites today.

Pretty good assuming that it is about iPhone 5 :D
