I'm seriously thinking of switching from my iPhone 5 to the Samsung Galaxy 4. I really dislike the iOS 7. Mainly all the white, hurts my eyes!! Has anyone else done this? Is it a bad idea??

Good choice! My co-worker has the S4 and it is AWESOME! :p

I was being serious.

I know. I'm just joking. It truly just depends on you. If you are tied to the Apple ecosystem you will regret it. Android isn't the wilderness people make it out to be. It has some cool features. I personally wouldn't recommend the S4 over the iPhone, Moto X or HTC One.

The Galaxy is a good phone with a nice display, and great camera. I find it uncomfortable to hold long term, and too glossy.

It may be worth trying the galaxy to realize how good the iPhone and ios system is. You'll be back!!

What do you mean by white? I have ios 7 and doesn't look white to me.

You can change the wallpaper to a darker set. After a few days you get used to iOS 7. It's radically different and less "lifelike" than the skeumorphic iOS 1-6 that preceded it, but the functionality is very similar and they have added some new features. It looks completely normal to me now.

Also, I've quickly become addicted to the Touch ID of the 5s. I am getting annoyed by the passcode on my iPad Mini. So if the Mini 2 has Touch ID, I'll probably get one. :D

I say go for it. We need Samsung around (and other companies) or Apple will get lazy with their updates. :D

Try it. I did.

And then I went back to iOS. Then I tried a Lumia. Then I went back to iOS.

I can't deal with the screen lag from the other phones. I wouldn't accept the Ten Commandments from God, Godself, if they had that kind of screen lag.

Screen lag, you said it brother.

It's like carrying around a "slow witted" phone in your pocket.

My 23 year old nephew recently went from the iPhone 4s to the Galaxy. He used it for a little over a month. He then switched back to his iPhone. Of course he was using IOS 6.

Direct text from him:

"Well now that I've owned both apple and android phones I would say the iphone is far superior"

He now really wants my iPhone 5, since I ended up getting the 5s.

Only way you will know for sure is to try it.

It really screws up the entire experience. I never even knew there was a term for it until either this site or 9to5 recently ran a homepage story on it.

My dad was an "MIT"-graduate, anti-Apple super nerd until I gave him my old iPod Touch. He was a month away from getting his first iPhone before he passed. That ranks tragic right before never getting to see his first grandson or getting to retire, I guess.

Personally, as someone who owns both, the iPhone is much better IMO. The keyboard and touchscreen are much more responsive, the OS doesn't lag like Android does. Overall it's a much better experience. Samsung's devices have more features but they are half baked and do not integrate with the OS well. GS4 is jack of all trades master of none

That last sentence is perfect!

I did prefer Android's keyboard, though. And Nokia's.

I did it last week. I returned the s4 and bought the 5s five days later. You'll be back.

Try turning turning your screen brightness down. It rarely needs to go past 20-30%.

Also, wrong sub forum. Should be in the iOS device alternatives forum.

go for it. and you can always install an ios theme if you happen to miss it.

Idk, try it out for yourself. My younger brother got the S4 this summer and returned it 6 days later for an iPhone 5. He said that he didn't even use the features the S4 had, so he didn't see the point in having the phone, but he did miss the bigger screen. He mostly decided to return it because it kept lagging here and there.

Just to share my story: I have been a die hard apple fan since day 1 and still am. I've had every iphone 3, 3gs, 4, 4s, 5. Then I got bored and decided to go with Android to try something new. I switched from iphone 5 to galaxy s4. In less than two months, I am making my way back to the iphone 5s.

I will NEVER touch an Android device again. Sure I will miss the bigger screen, but I would rather have a functional phone.

The phone crashed constantly. I had to constantly clear my ram so that the phone would not slow down. I could not see anything under the sun. The phone would freeze when I unplugged it from the charger for 20 seconds. The phone would restart itself from time to time. Bluetooth streaming would cut in and out. Phone was laggy and unresponsive.

All the features are GIMMICK, half-baked, worthless IMHO. They advertise all these features but what they don't tell you is that you need to use their apps in order for the features to work. The Samsung browser is so bad, I can't even explain it.

When you first have the phone, you'll enjoy it because of all the new features and how different it is from IOS, then you'll hate it very quick.

I really don't know how anyone can claim an Android device is decent. They are either delusional or just an Apple hater.
