I got my wife a Belkin Grip Candy TPU case for her 5. I really like the size and feel of it, but I hate the buttons. Does anyone know of a similar case with openings instead of rubber buttons?

You can find TPU cases for SUPER-cheap on eBay, usually sold in lots of several different colors. Just be sure to check out the photos that accompany each auction, as some will have covered buttons and some won't, and even then, if you end up with something you don't want, let the seller know. I like the covered buttons and in a lot of 10, ended up with 7 that were covered and 3 that weren't. I complained politely and they rushed replacements out right away and threw in a couple of extras for my trouble.
