Hello,

I just received my confirmation from ATT that I may unlock my iphone 5. If I don't plan on using my iPhone 6 till this Monday, do I need to wait till then to unlock my iphone 5? Or can I unlock it now and still use it till Monday?

And if I plan on selling the iPhone 5, is the unlock immediate or must I wait a certain amount of time before it takes effect?

Thanks in advance.

I unlocked mine last night. About an hour after unlock request approval email.

-backup to iCloud (for good measure)
-connect to iTunes, let it sync, transfer apps, etc..
-turn off find my iPhone
-backup
-restore iPhone (not from backup)
-When it is complete, you will get the unlock confirmation
-restore from backup
-turn on find my iPhone

Done

Thanks for the responses.

Would the best strategy be to unlock the iPhone 5 once I receive the 6, activate the 6, and then immediately the iphone 5 is ready for sale?

eta: you shouldn't have to reset to factory after the unlock. Just don't restore it.

Last question:

I just completed the unlock steps and restored from my backup. When I'm ready to sell it, I can tell the buyer the phone has been unlocked, and just delete all my info from the phone and remove the sim card to be placed in the new iphone 6?

exactly.

Out of curiosity, how much will you be selling for?

On Craigslist? That's pretty steep for a 5, even if unlocked. I'm assuming you're in the Columbus area?

Yes.

Good steps to follow here.

I just got $355 for my unlocked iPhone 5 on eBay. Granted, after eBay and PayPal fees I only ended up with a little over $300.

Sounds about right.

People pay more on places like eBay. They are protected by eBay and Paypal.

On CL, the prices are a lot less as there's generally more risk involved.

For what it's worth guys, Best Buy has been selling their stock of new AT&T iPhone 5 16GB for $250. I understand you're talking about unlocked and possibly larger size, but just thought I'd let you know.

Second note: I sold my iPhone 5 64GB in absolutely perfect condition 3 months ago for $365. Now I'm looking for a 16GB 5 to buy outright for my mother. Should have just kept mine and gave her that.

So if anyone wants to sell me a good condition AT&T iPhone 5 16GB for a reasonable price, shoot me a PM. Good luck with your sales!
