For those who use an iPhone 5, how is iOS 8.1 in terms of performance compared to iOS 7?

While I use a 5S personally, on my 5C development machines, I have not really felt a slowdown in any field, whether multitasking, launching apps or using various services.

The weather app still lags/drop frames when going from detailed to list view. But it does that on the 5S, 6 & 6+ as well.

8.1 is way slower on 5s.

8.0 was slower but not as bad.

My ipad3 is useless on safari now. It doesn't even work. It was barely working w 8.0

Wtf is apple doing lately

Just finished updating to 8.1 from 7.1.2 on iPhone 5 and so far so good. I have not seen any lag. Everything else from what I can see so far seems the same, speed wise, as 7.1.2.

I did an update install from iTunes.

Edit: sorry lag I mentioned was on an ipad4. iphone 5 is perfectly smooth.

Wonder if anyone has done a speed/performance test comparing iPhone 5...8.1 vs 7.1.2 Still on the fence if I should update or not.

I have a 5 I'm leaving on 6.1.4

It's fast enough, and the battery lasts longer than my 6

iOS 8.1 works perfectly on my iPhone 5.
Better than iOS8.
I can't see the difference with iOS7.1 in performance.

Can't comment on the comparison to iOS 7 (I upgraded from 8.0.2 to 8.1) but I can't see any drop in performance over the last few versions from 7 up to now. Running an iPhone 5 and OTA updates all the way.

I recomend you make a clean install, i have made on my iPad 2 and now with 8.1 is 50% faster...

8.1 installed on both my iPhone 5 and my iPad 3 and initially there appears to be no issues including the weather app as far as i can tell. Both seem to be running well.

My iPhone 5 has been through iOS 6, 7, 8, and 8.1 and all the updates between except for skipping the 7.1.x updates...

All have been fine, and all have felt smooth

8.1 feels fine on mine... still smooth. Only weird glitch I had is that I only had 3.85 GB free before upgrading to 8.1 from 8.0. And, after the update I had 5.02 GB free. Nothing missing, just more free space. Nice glitch :D

I'm quite happy with the performance as is. Unless that's a guaranteed speed boost I'm not keen on the hassle of resetting the device, reloading a backup, and the inevitable fiddling with settings and app data contents.

My iPhone 5 is great. Love the new keyboard and ability to send voice messages via iMessage.

I rolled back to 7.x on my iPad 3 within days. Very laggy and stuttery.

It doesn't drop any frames going from the list view to the detailed view? Do you have several cities there?

Not as far as i can tell although you may have a keener eye than me but i see nothing to detract from using the app. I've got two places in there.
