iPhone 5c locked during iOS 9.1 update

I have an iPhone 5c. While updating to iOS 9.1, the phone locked up with approximately 1/4 of the download complete. I've tried turning the phone off, restarting, plugging into my MAC and working from the screen. In spite of entering my passcode, the screen still comes up with the apple icon and shows the status bar of the download at 1/4 complete. Without completely going through recovery mode, is there any way to correct this problem? PM

Maybe I should buy Iphone 6

Dfu restore with iTunes.
You cannot stay at 9.1 you will restore to the latest iOS version.
