I've seen a similar post a year ago, but my phone has not been dropped and was working perfectly, except for charging difficulties (lint in lightning connector). I'm not a total newbie. I have successfully changed batteries and screens in multiple 4S's.

After clearing lint from port, I decided to open the case (1st time for this unit) to see if I could clean out other gunk (speaker grill, etc). After reassembling, the unit will not power up. After a few minutes, when connected via USB to Macbook and iTunes it begins chiming once every 5 seconds. Also, the back behind the battery is warm to the touch.

I have removed and reinstalled all the ribbon cables multiple times. I tried the hard reset (holding power and home for 30+ seconds) with no success and disconnecting the battery over night.

I noticed the flat copper ribbon cable that is adhered to the LCD/digitizer heat shield is a little wrinkled. It looks like it was installed that way. It looked like it had rubbed through one of the other ribbon cables. I applied a small piece of electrical tape to insulate between the ribbon cables. None of the above has solved the problem.

Any other suggestions?
