I was opening my iPhone 5s and it jerked open too far tearing the ribbon cable for my home button. As I've read only Apple or an authorized technician can replace a home button and have touch id work again. How much is this service fee? Will they even touch it with a third party battery?

I'm trying to decide whether to get it fixed or to cut my losses, replace the button myself and take the hit in resale price by not having touch id work. Then either get an iPhone SE, 6s or another 5s.

I'll base my decision on repair cost vs the difference between resale and replace.

Is there any solution to reset Touch ID yourself. Possibly through jailbreaking.

Either:
  • $129 for a screen replacement.
  • $269 for out of warranty replacement.
Call up your local Apple Store to see which one it will be.
