OK, I'm looking for someone who knows the iPhone 5S microphone and how good it really is.
I have recently purchased a iPhone 5S 64GB which replaced my 4S.
I used my 4S for filming in the car whilst on track and the 5S will be taking its place.
Now I have looked into trying to get an external microphone which will require a 4 position jack 3.5 to plug into the iPhone.
So the question is:
Without having tried the 5S mic (which I believe they improved over the 4S didn't they)? Will I gain from an external mic?
I did notice when using my 4S the sound quality wasn't as good as my DSLR previously. But maybe the 5S will be better?
For position - an external mic is an additional bonus, allowing me to place it in a preferred area like in the boot (trunk), engine bay (under the hood) or somewhere else in the cabin.
I have actually struggled to find a suitable mic on a 1-2metre length. There are plenty of 3 position jacks but not many 4 positions. A 4 position to 3 position adaptor I have found which allows better choice of mic but the only adaptors (4 position male to 3 position female) has 2 ends which will not be suitable as the other with hang down and get in the way during driving.
