iphone 5S no contract and Verizon Edge

Can someone explain the new Verizon Edge deal?

I intend on selling my iphone 5 32GB before resale value dips ~20%. I have a backup phone.
However right now, if i go to verizonwireless.com and try to pick a new iPhone, no contract, only option is to go the Edge route, or do an Upgrade (which i am not eligible until next year)

Anyone know if this is true, or i will be able to buy the new 5S from Verizon, no contract, no Edge...

You have to click on the iphone detail screen, then you get the "Month to Month" price option. (full price with no contract). You do only get the Edge or the contract price on the search screen.
