I noticed 2 red pixels on my iphone 5s screen i am definitely going to return but i'm wondering how does this happen? Is it a manufacturer defect or can it happen to any iphone screen? I had my phone for about 2 weeks and it only started to happen on monday.

Go to the Apple store for a replacement. As little as one dead pixel is enough for an iPhone replacement.

It happens because there are approximately 2.2 MILLION subpixels (red, green, blue) and it's a modern miracle they can consistently make 2.2 million perfect transistors :) Bad pixels happen, and Apple is good about them :)
