iPhone 5s sync with iPhone 6s

Why do I get this message when I try to sync my old 5s to my new 6s "The iPhone “iPhone” cannot be used because it requires a newer version of iTunes. Go to www.itunes.com to download the latest version of iTunes." Obviously both the 6s OS 9 and iTunes on my Mac OS 10.7.5 are both updated. I'm trying to transfer everything from old 5s onto new 6s using iTunes. TIA.
