I realize the iPhone 5S with an original case wont fit in the iPhone 5S dock, but have anyone tried using the slightly larger 5C dock for this combo? And if so, does it fit?

Funny you mention this, was just thinking about the same thing!
Would love to know if the 5S would work in the 5C dock with a thin ultra case??

Well that could be an option if it turns out Apples 5C dock wont work. Apples dock would be my first choise though.

Seems like half of this forum must work for 12 south, everyone plugging this over priced dock that doesn't even come with a cable.

I don't see how the 12south dock is considered price at $34.99 when the Apple dock is $29.99 both do not come with cables. You have to remove your phone from its case with the Apple dock. $5 more you can leave you device in its case.

Also considering from the signatures on the forum showing the amount of Apple devices people own, an extra $5 is not hurting anyones pocket

12 South dock also lacks a 3.5mm socket for playing music.

I don't have my 12south dock yet but from the photo, the 5s headphone/line out jack is still accessible. So you would still get to keep your phone in the case and use the line-out jack.

I originally bought the Apple 5s dock but returned it

Fair enough, I just think it's a bit over priced and not very aesthetically pleasing. I don't have the apple dock either, I have a Philips ds1155.

A popular product not meeting your criteria doesn't mean that people work for the manufacturer of that product.

Overpriced, as with any topic, is subjective. If it's too pricey for you then you're free to use whatever alternative suits your budget.

I stand by my comments.

Docks for the iPhone 4/4S were able to play music through the 30-pin connector and a line-out plug from the dock. Is this not the case with the lightning port? I find it odd that docks need a separate plug to go into the headphone jack.

In my opinion it's too high and looks silly.

Agreed.

Has anyone actually tried putting a iPhone 5S with a thin case into a 5C dock yet?

My dock just died and I'm looking for a new one, the Apple ones seem to last longer!

I got the 12South dock because of it's customizability with any size iPhone and future iPhones that still use the lightning port. It's only $5 more (negligible) so it didn't really figure into my buying decision. I just hate that every time I buy a new iPhone, I have to buy a new dock. The design is great to me and fits everything else I have - also, the line-out is a non-issue to me because I stream via BT or AirPlay anyway.
