My daughter has my wife's old 5s and everything was great until the lastest patch came out. She keeps being told to download the newer version however whenever she tries to, she gets an error code like "error 4000". Has anyone else experienced this? Is this something we can just ignore? Any help would be appreciated.

I already checked the "official" apple site for this problem and they basically say reset everything and try again. Which we have done with no success.

Have you tried to download the firmware manually and then installing it through iTunes? You can specify what firmware to use by holding down the option(alt)-key while pressing the update button in iTunes. Don't forget to backup all your data first!
