I have been using it on verizon for over 2 years. wondering i can use it on any other carrier? do i have to call verizon and tell them to unlock it?

All Verizon's LTE phones should be fully unlocked and ready to use on any gsm carrier.

Hello community. Is there any means to go about checking what provider an iPhone belongs to by way of IMEI lookup??

Many of those imei check sites are inaccurate.
A sure way is to pay the imei check for 99 cents that some 3rd party unlock companies have available or contact Apple and ask them.
