Hi guys, I'm hoping y'all might have some insight for me, because I'm having a very frustrating problem with a pair of client phones.
I install car electronics for a living and am not well versed with Smartphones and their issues, and that leads me to how I came to get wrapped up with this issue;
Short story, I did a CarPlay unit in a client's car and since CarPlay uses Siri for it's voice command, Siri needs to work perfectly at all times.
We went to demo the unit, and Siri only worked about 1/5 times. The clients never used Siri for anything else, so weren't aware of the issue until we needed Siri for this.
It's a husband / wire pair who both has Iphone 6+ phones on AT&T.
At that point we spent a long evening trying to get Siri working properly at all. Both plugged into the car, and using the phone unplugged like normal we found Siri worked once, then next few times she'd heard us a just think and think and finally say 'Sorry, I couldn't seem to connect to the internet'.
So that's both phones, using 3 different mics (2 phones and Pioneer mic, too). So it's not the mics... she's having problem connecting out of the phone. When this happens you can still makes phone calls, just Siri can't get a 'solid connection' essentially, it seems.
Today we used the field test app to see reception numerically. We found both phones floating around the -90 to -105dB reception level. It fluctuated just standing around, and seemed arbitrary. When testing Siri and watching these numbers, Siri failed at -92db, -100db, you name it. She also WORKED sometimes with those same numbers. Completely arbitrary!
We also borrowed a Verizon Iphone 6 from another employee and used Siri over and over with no issues. We saw about the same reception numbers on the Verizon Iphone, but Siri worked over and over.
We reset network connections on both Iphone 6+s and one worked well for about a week after that, and it didn't help at all for the other one.
When we turn wifi off on the phones it seems Siri works more often, but still fails sometimes. But it does seem to work better with Wifi turned off.
Somehow I got mixed into helping with this since I installed the headunit. He's a good guy so I want to help him out.
At this point I suspect AT&T and don't know where to go to get it fixed, though. I find it unlikely that both phones are faulty when it comes to hardwire, etc. AT&T says 'talk to apple', Apple says 'talk to AT&T'. No one seems to know what specifically is wrong, or how to fix it.
One other interesting thing, another employee has an Iphone6 on AT&T and says she doesn't use Siri much, but has never had a problem when using it.
Any ideas here? Where do I/we go from here?
