iPhone 6 plus and AT&T Next

I realize that this question may be a bit premature but I am currently on the AT&T next 12 month plan and anticipate being up for renewal just as the next iPhone is released. My question is if I am forced to upgrade through AT&T or can I do it through Apple as I have a phone to exchange. My experience purchasing the 6 plus last year though AT&T was not a positive one and would rather pre-order the 6s plus through Apple.

i believe you should be able to do it through apple now. i think when the 6 launched last september, apple wasn't able to do next upgrades but fixed that issue shortly.

If you are going to turn in your Next phone then you likely would need to do it through AT&T. If not--if you are going to pay it off basically and perhaps sell it yourself for somewhat more money--then you can do it through Apple or anyone you wish really.
