iPhone 6 plus sound & music playback quality

Guys, what is the hardware and software differences in regards of the music/sound quality between iPhone 6 and the iPod (and iPhone 3)? I heard in the old iPhone 3 they still use so called iPod app to play the songs and the quality of the sound was much better then in iPhone 5 and 6 ? Is it true?

I would assuming having a newer iphone such had the iPhone 6/6+ would have better features including better sound quality than older generation device's

Yes, but they do not have... Now compared the same songs and headsets on iPhone 3 and my iphone 6 plus.. The iphone 3 sound is more clear and better. That is why I am wondering what is the sound chip hardware difference between both
