iPhone 6 problem with Mirroring

ive watched many videos and read that the phone should mirror the image from the phone to a tv or PC monitor. I purchased the lighting digital av adapter for lightning cord to hdmi. But nothing shows up on the tv when connected. I've tried 2 different tvs and tried many different apps and videos and nothing shows up on screen.
Any help is much appreciated

make sure you're on the correct hdmi input. when connected, swipe up from the phone and hit the airplay. then mirror.
