iPhone 6 Screen Brightness Permanently Low

Hey all,

A couple days ago my iPhone 6 did a very weird thing. After about an hour into my day my iPhone screen went black! It would still ding when I got a text message as well as ring when I got a phone call. Even though my screen was black I was still able to swipe where the answer phone call bar is and pick up my call. I was even able to unlock my phone after a hard restart to activate siri using my headphones (home button siri would not activate). This was a pretty big inconvenience...

After quite a few hours of not being able to use my screen I was magically able to see very little of my screen again. It had the same effect of that when you turn the low brightness zoom filter on. I was able to notice that I had 10% battery left (had a full charge 3 hours before this) and than it died.
Once I was able to get it charged I was able to see my screen again, but it was still at a very low brightness. After many hard restarts and even restoring my phone to factory settings (three times, once without restoring from my icloud) my iphone is still super dim.

I personally think Apple is trying to get me to buy the new 6S+, and as nice as that would be I don't have the money as of now to buy a new phone. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to fix my screen brightness? If this happens to be a hardware problem that wasn't caused by a drop can my phone be replaced?

Any suggestions are much appreciated!
Thanks!
