iPhone 6 Shell Plastic Bands and Protruding Lens Theory

My theory explaining the antenna bands is that the iPhone 6 will have glass on the top and bottom antenna bands, just like the iPhone 5/5s.

The image above shows protruding lens, and the rather ugly looking rubber band filling in the gap around the top and bottom antenna gaps.

The reason for the cutout gap - which the rubber band like material fills in most photos - is so the glass can be glued securely without glue appearing on the underneath of the glass (hence why it continues around the very edges of the phone). The rubber band material looks like it’s protecting the shell gaps from dust so when the glass is added it sits flush.

This means that the protruding camera lens will actually sit flush with the glass and so the complete back of the iPhone 6.
 
I don't really follow... the back appears to be a uni-body design with grooves cut where the plastic is.

There has been ZERO evidence of glass in those spaces on the i6.

Even assuming you're right.. the glass would be flat and the camera would still protrude. If the glass was raised to match the camera width, the entire top of the phone would protrude.

Just not seeing it...
 
This is a prototype and not the final product.

However, I think the back will be pretty much all metal and the bands will be necessary due to cellular/wifi function issues.

I'm sure everyone crying about how "ugly" this is will drool over the final product. Just relax.
 
The bands just seem out of place if there's no glass, like they're going around what? Should be along the sides if anything, this is an odd design choice :confused:

Edit: the black one actually doesn't look bad at all, the white with white bands looks awful in my opinion. Luckily I wanted the black one :)

Agreed. I'm sure that Apple will tidy it up before it is released.
 
Maybe the top and bottom are unnoticeably recessed for the glass to sit flush. That's a beat-up looking back cover, so who knows.
 
Why would you put glass on top of the aluminium?

The glass is there on the iPhone 5 instead of the aluminium to allow the radios to work more effectively.
 
For some reason I dont see glass being there. If you look at the shell of the iPhone 5/5s, you see that it is cut into the shell where the glass goes.
 
I've said it before, and I'll say it again.....

Wait till September for apple to announce it.

It's less than a month away. That's it.
 
Interesting thought, but not buying it. I think this is the final design. We've heard zero part leaks about additional glass on the back and it just wouldn't make sense to put glass on top of aluminum. Serves no purpose, not even aesthetically.
