Just a quickie to find out whether I am alone with my only issue with the silicone cases from Apple for the iPhone 6.

Firstly I have never used a case on my iPhones, I have always gone naked. The idea of putting a case around an iPhone, adding bulk and hiding most of it behind a boring case didn't sit right with me. Luckily the few times I have dropped my past iPhones they survived the falls unscathed (maybe if I had dropped it on concrete it may have left some scuff marks).

However unlike my previous iPhones (5,4,3G,1), the combination of the size, materials and slippery, unstable grip of the iPhone 6 mean I am almost forcing myself into using a case for it as I can't trust myself not to drop the thing.

So I bought a blue silicone case from Apple which arrived yesterday and it has been on the phone since. While I would definitely prefer not to have a case at all, I am already seeing the benefits of having one.

It is far easier to use one handed and typing with two hands is a breeze due to the extra grip you get. And while it does add a couple of millimetres to the dimensions, it doesn't feel too bulky. I could live with it.

However my one main issue with the silicone case is, and this may just be me... every bit of dust sticks to this thing for fun.

I have a dog that has just finished moulting and if one of his hairs is anywhere near the case, it's like a magnet to it. I also smoke tobacco and any flecks of tobacco lying around are too drawn to it and I am finding myself trying to clean it constantly.

Does anyone else have this problem? Is it attracting all this dirt because it's new? Will it get better with time? Is there something I can do to reduce the dirt-magnetism? How about cleaning it? Can I use water or wet wipes to wash it down?

Regardless... Great case. Fits perfectly. Easy to remove. Gives a lot of grip and sense of security that the phone ain't going to just slide out your hand when using it.

Any advice a appreciated. Thanks

I have a red silicone case and two cats. No significant collection of lint, dirt or cat fur on mine.

Typically silicone cases are dust-magnets, but I was surprised to find that mine does not appear to be very susceptible to dust or debris build-up. I also have the blue one, by the way.

Maybe they put some coating on it to prevent debris build-up and you got a bad sample (this is just a pure guess with no evidence behind it)? Or maybe there's just a ton of debris around you for it to pick up?

If the issue persists, you could try returning it within the 14-day window for another of the same case and see if that's any better.

I think certain material/fabric/environments give off more lint than others. I posted a few days ago in another thread about how much I love the blue silicone case I have but at the same time my only negative was the lint/dust issue.

My khaki's that I wear to work or my shorts on the weekend give off very little lint. There is some but it's light colored and wipes off quickly. My jeans however give off a lot. So much so that it is very easy to see the phone covered in it when I remove it from my pocket just after a minute or so. I don't think he has a defective case. I think that's just the nature of silicone. Apple's version is more resistant to dust compared to other brands I have had in the past though. Other than that the case is great. It has a tighter fit than the leather version and it's super easy to clean.

My fiancee has the pink silicone case and I noticed the same lint issue with her case. She keeps it in her purse a lot though or out in the open on her desk so it doesn't show as much lint. I can replicate the same lint issue with her phone though just by putting it in my jeans pocket. I have still debated going back to the leather because of the lint issue but I am trying to decide if it's worth it because the silicone case is perfect otherwise (blue looks amazing on a space grey phone).

I went with the "black" (really grey) Apple Silicone case for my iPhone 6. It does get some lint but a far, far, far lower amount then any 3rd party rubber/silicone case I've ever used. It almost seems it a less sticky, smoother silicone then typical, a higher quality or something. I knew there was a chance this would be a lint magnet (and yes sometimes it shows some, but it is easy to wipe or blow off) but I wanted the "grippablity" and thin size AND I LOVE THIS CASE, and I DON'T LOVE CASES.

Thanks for the replies. Glad it's not just me.

I won't deny that having a dog and smoking causes a lot of dust and hair; but the case seems to pick up every iota of it!
Luckily it does clean off using a damp tissue or a wet wipe, but it's not practical to be keep wiping it down every time I pick it up!

I think I will still keep the case on as the extra security in the hand it gives out ways the dirt factor!

Think I am going to order a white and green one; a: to see if other colours are as bad and b: so I have a colour for every mood :) ... well, three moods :D

I love the fact it isn't sticky either. It has a nice smooth grip to it. I had an otterbox commuter back during the 3GS days and that was a lint magnet! My friend has the grey apple silicone case and it shows lint a bit more than mine but that's mainly has to do with the darker color compared to mine. Still way less lint than some silicone cases I have had in the past.

I have a Space Gray 6 and I'm torn among the Black/Grey, Blue, and Red. Do you guys have any thoughts on which color would show the lint more?

Just an update and I might be jumping the gun perhaps; but after a few days use and a couple of wet wipe downs, I don't think the case is quite as dirt-magnetised.

Now I have posted this it will start attracting every speck again ;)
