iPhone 6 Speakerphone and Non-Speaker Phone Mic Issue?

I was just on a phone with a friend, I left the original screen protector/plastic on. They were very quiet, which I think is normal because of the plastic over the earpiece. They could hear me fine when I talked, but when I switched to speakerphone, they could not hear me or barely hear me sometimes.

Is there a separate mic used when in speakerphone mode?

Yes there are 3 mics and a different one is used for speakerphone.
