Anybody know if I can use a 'camera connection kit' (i.e. a lightning cable to USB socket or memory card reader) to access videos/photos/music from a USB stick or memory card whilst on the road?

Unfortunately no it only works with the iPad. It comes up as an unsupported device when plugged into 6+.

Oh wait that's the SD card reader that comes up unsupported. The USB plug is only useful for outputing digital audio on the iphone.

Ooh, that's almost more interesting! Does that function work as standard? Is it worth me getting a lightning to USB-port to test??

You would need a jailbreak for this

I'm jailbroken - should I go ahead and purchase? Will I need to install any particular tweaks (or wait for them to become compatible?)

With the camera kit you can also download the Onkyo HF app and pay the $10 for the HD pack. It opens up the ability to add 24/96 and 24/192 music and output it to an external dac (many receivers) using the lightning to camera kit adapter.
