I have a family members phone here.

Phone shows red battery icon only

This started 2 days ago, phone shows 100%, then shuts off. Plug it in, comes right back and its fine.

Yesterday same thing

Today, it turned off, never turned on again. Plugging in it doesn't help, computer doesn't recognize it. Took it to Apple, they ran diagnostics which shows no errors, and phone is fully working. Want 299 for replacement. The genius says he has no idea why its not turning on. No water damage.

Tried the blow dryer trick by blowing hot air on the battery for a minute but no dice.

Any tips you guys know ? We want to erase it now.

computer doesn't recognize its plugged in. no matter how long the phone is plugged in, it never charges

Leave it plugged in for 48 hrs...if it doesn't turn on after that, get out the wallet.
she got the 7 through upgrade program, so I'm just trying to erase it now or figure out the problem. Ill leave it plugged in for 48 hours before I take apart the phone

After following your advice, the phone turned on. Yes it hasn't been 48 hours but it did.

So I kept the phone unplugged 2 hours, full brightness, playing a video. It never went down from 100%. Obv its going down but its not showing it.

Contacted Apple, they ran diagnostic now the phones on, and there diagnostic shows no battery is in the phone....

I asked him "how could I approve the diagnostic if the battery isn't in the phone..." He had no idea. The Apple store has no idea either.

This is the weirdest thing Ive ever seen in 10 years of owning iPhones.

Since this phone is now regulated to backup phone duties (I presume), it is less of a concern?

But yes...a mite strange.

Hi,

Your iPhone might have not charged properly due to which it is not turning on. Follow these steps

1. Check charging cable and USB adapter for damages - If there are damages then replace those cables.

2. Check charging ports of your iPhone for dust or debris: Sometime the dust get stuck in the charging port of your iPhone, so removing it may help you.

3. Try changing the power socket/wall outlet: Some times there is a problem with the power socket, so changing power socket or wall outlet might work in this case.

4. Force restart your iPhone: Press the sleep/wake button and Volume Down button of your iPhone at same time and hold it for 10 seconds. When you see the apple logo release the button.

If you can see that it's charging, then your problem is resolved.

5. Factory Reset: If nothing works, try doing a factory reset by going to Settings>General>Reset. Finally tap on Erase all contents and settings.

Once you are done with this try charging your phone again and check if it is working or not.

6. Contact Apple Support: The last hope is Apple support, if all the above methods doesn't work for you. Contact them on https://www.apple.com/support/contact/

Hope this helps resolve your issue. For more information on this topic visit http://www.howali.com/2017/05/why-my-iphone-7-6s-5s-wont-charge-not-charging-when-plugged-in.html

My iPhone 6s battery dead won't charge or turn on. I order new battery with iPhone tools about $12 from eBay. I took out two screws on the iPhone charge and open up the screen, then took out two screws to disconnect battery from the iPhone 6s, wait about 30 second, then put all the screws back. Turn on charger, Press home button to a battery logo and charge until full, after finish charged I update my iPhone 6s to iSO 11, my iPhone work OK now.
