I have a 6s+ and my fiancee has the SE.

Both phones works great without any problems.

But BOTH have odd wifi connecting speeds.
Let me explain.

If in front room where router is the phones will connect within seconds.
Router is SKY provided.
The SKY box is connected via wifi and my imac via wifi and lan to the SKY box.

But if we go up in our bedroom it is different.
It will connect and has a good signal but can take between 30 and 120 seconds to connect.
I have timed this.

My Samsung tab connects right away without issue.

Our house is not granite but made cheaply as council house.
This has always been case from ios 9 right through to 10.1.1

but other devices do not have this connecting lag only the two apple devices.
Also ipad air 2 has sluggish connecting speed but not as bad as the phones.

It not a big issue as once connected it all fine and good speeds.
Just seems bit odd.

Is the wireless encryption set to WPA2-PSK only (no mixed/legacy or WPA Auto?) That normally does the trick. WPA2-PSK may also be called WPA2-AES.

Unknown box is as supplied by sky.

strange how connects very fast in same room but slow to connect if upstairs.

3 laptops and 2 android tablets connects ok but just the apple devices slow while a distance from router.

Will log into router and check settings tomorrow night as will not be home til 11pm tonight.

What is best setting to set encryption to for ios?
