I've owned iPhones & iPad Minis since each were released. I've always purchased the Wi-Fi + Cellular iPad Mini for 2 reasons: 1) leaving the iPhone hotspot on for instant iPad net access would would eat up my battery; 2) concern that the hotspot signal would not be as strong as the built-in cell signal.

I would love to be able to purchase a Wi-Fi only iPad Mini 4 and use the iPhone 6s (or my 6) hotspot. I'm now convinced that the hotspot signal is more than adequate for the job (any dissenters out there?), but is the hotspot function still a battery hog? Thanks in advance for your help!
