I have a bit of a quandary. I currently have an IPhone 6S Plus, I’ve had it nearly 4 years, bought in June 2016. I know I can happily keep a phone for 4 years. Hubby has a 6S, we bought them together. He wants the SE, he likes the size and wouldn’t want a phone bigger than that, plus he’s a technophobe so doesn’t like change. Now me, my heart wants a phone the same screen size as mine, but with the same chip as the SE, so they last the same length of time. My head says the SE is good enough as the 11 is £380 more with AppleCare. I am losing screen size, that’s the main issue, but I only really use my phone outside the house as I have both an Air (2019) and a Mini 5 for home use. Hubby has an iPad Pro 9.7 but he’s forever using my Air so I’m mainly using the Mini.

I have pre ordered the SE so will play with it when it arrives but I’m already thinking it’s a downgrade. What does the 11 offer apart from a similar size screen to the 6S Plus and a better camera? if the stores were open I would go and have a play but that’s not an option. Any advice would be appreciated.

on usability standpoint, the real replacement to your Plus sized phone is the 11 Pro Max, might as well wait for the rumored SE+.

The 11, while taller is not up to snuff with the 5.5” size of the Plus iPhones especially when viewing content.

One advice I can give you is to re-asses your usage scenarios. I think the 4.7” SE will complement your 7.9” iPad Mini perfectly and provide better segmentation on what you plan to do with each device. Want to Netflix? Use iPad. Catch up on social media? Use iPhone, etc.

Thank you. You are right, I do need to re-asses.

this is just one of the reasons I sent back the iPhone 11. The screen size proportion is better on the 6s plus , the 11 is narrower

Thank you. I didn’t consider the narrow screen size.

Like many interfaces this all comes down to personal preference and getting used to the other devices.

I have an 8+ and get an xr or 11 as a loaner from work occasionally. I get along with them just fine.

Why don't you order the 11 as well? You'll have both phones to test at home, decide and send one back. Maybe not very nice towards Apple, but hey, this is a possibility they offer to us, customers. Subject to the rules in the region you live in, that is.

I’m very tempted, but i feel I should give the SE a chance first as should be here on Friday. I still can’t reconcile the price of the 11.

i’m hoping that works for the SE too, but yes you probably are right.
