How is this a rumor? Watch the YouTube video. It's not sapphire, that's a fact.
I'd call this false advertising by Apple, which is very disappointing.

I just don't understand why they would take that away. Especially after how good quality it is. Why would I downgrade the new flagship phone without sapphire

This has been asked and answered by Phil Schiller on Twitter - he confirmed it is sapphire on both the lens and the home button

Remember these are not Apple factories - they are Foxconn factories. Apple could be being sold a bill of goods "Oh yes, we are using sapphire on the lenses - no worries people!" Who knows?

yeah i saw vid showing it wasn't sapphire on the 7 unfortunately but at the same time I don't really care since i have it in a case anyways. Not much camera contact. Still they should take away the grade of the materials used while they are still turning profit at least lol.
