iPhone 7 plus unable to use camera while talking on google hangouts

Today I was talking to a friend using google hangouts app on my 3 day old iPhone 7 plus.

I wanted to show off the new camera, so while my friend is still on the phone, I pulled out camera and tried to take a picture but it wouldn't focus.

So I hung up, then I was able to take a picture.

Anyone else has encountered this?
