So we’re looking to get our grandfather a used phone. We don’t need it to be blazing fast or the latest and greatest just something cheap that works. I was checking out phones on Swappa and the 7 seems to be right around our price range that we’re looking to spend somewhere under $150. We can get an LG for that price new but our whole family has iPhones and android just seems so complicated. Do you guys think the 7 is still a solid phone? Anything bad about them that I should know before hand?

I personally had an iPhone 6 up until last year and it was great besides the speakers not being very loud prob just dirty over time, and battery life I had to replace it a couple times but thats normal and was easy. Is the iPhone 7 a good step up from the 6?

The 7 and 7+ are still good phones. I keep a 7+ as a spare along with our 8 and 11 and it still works great. Stick with an iPhone since that's what your family is using. Makes it a lot less complicated especially when you want to text your grandfather.

Yeah, just sure it doesn't have the audio IC issue (Loop Disease).

Yeah the 7 is a great phone I know 6s is really smooth in operating the OS and large apps still have support for many other apps as well

A 7 is always a crapshoot. Maybe you'll get a good one, maybe not. Personally I'd never buy one. I have one and got burned.

Hmm wow that scares me now. If we do get a used one and it’s fine initially then starts jacking up my guess is Apple won’t fix it because of how old it is?

maybe we should look into a 6s instead

Depends on his use case. If his vision is poor but plans to read the news get him an 6, 6s,7 plus model. If it’s strictly for emergency and phone calls a iPhone 5 will work.

Yep. My cousin has one and he loves it.
Runs iOS 13 perfectly fine

the current base iPad has an A10 so that chip will be supported for some time yet

They won't fix it because it requires micro soldering - the kind of repair that they don't want to get involved with. A repair at Apple is basically a screen or battery or charge port replacement- swapping parts.
There are independent repair shops that have fixed the iPhone 7 Audio IC issue, but it's a risky repair and most shops won't do it

Avoid the 7 like the plague. I had multiple issues with that design and had it replaced many times while I had Apple Care Plus.

Now my wife’s 7+ was/is a champ and it was handed down to my mother in law about two years ago, it’s still going strong.

There are a couple of iPhone 7's in my family, they're working great and looking good. Just be sure to get one with a good battery, ideally one that's already been replaced so you know it isn't knocking on 4 years old.

Yeah, I’m going to be the ‘that guy’ who is going to suggest something that’s entirely different from what you were asking and others varied opinions, I would personally try to find an iPhone 8. Avoid all the issues iPhone 7 had, it’s a much more mature device and had very few, if any hardware issues. That would be my suggestion to spend the extra money and to avoid any potential faults 7 had.

The updated iPhone SE might even better in that respect, but can likely be somewhat pricier.
