So I have an iPhone 7+ that came with 2 years of Apple Care when I bought it almost 2 years ago via the iPhone Upgrade Program. The 2 years of warranty ends this September, and before that happens I want to get the screen replaced and only have to pay $29. It is heavily scratched but not broken. Which is a miracle, have dropped it countless times in the 2 years, and have never had a screen protector on it.

Anyways, so what I want to know is does my screen have to be broken for them to repair it? Or does anybody have any experience with Apple Care+ repairs?

Reason I ask, is a friend of mine had a decent scuff/blemish on the lower right corner of the phone, it was not actually broken but enough to bother her. She had Apple Care+ and went into the Apple Store, and they mentioned they could not replace the screen. But upon running other system diagnostics, there were other things failing so they ended up giving her an entire new replacement phone.

So in summary, should I just make a trip to the Apple Store, see if they will replace the screen for me for $29, and risk them saying no - then somehow purposely break my screen and have to go back in a second time to get it replaced?

If the scratches make it difficult to read it may be considered broken

deliberately breaking the screen in order to get a replacement screen during a 2nd visit may be considered an act of fraud.

iPhones are obviously sturdy based on your description. I remember one time banging into a table and the phone in my pocket took the hit and cracked. It was getting replaced anyway and it taught me to face the glass inward and cushion it against my leather wallet and I have not cracked a screen that way again.

I would just ask Apple if they would be willing to replace the display for XYZ price, and if they say no, then that’s up to *you* what you do from that point forward.
