My charging port on my iPhone 7plus was damaged when I accidentally walked away with the phone while it was still plugged in. The cable now does not have a snug fit, sometimes falls out, and sporadically charges.

What is Apple's cost to replace it? I saw you can buy the part for $8 on amazon and replace yourself but I have always heard DIY might cause more problems.

Any insight would be appreciated

Replacing the lightning flex is not that hard with the right tools.

You will need a source of heat (hair dryer works), screwdriver for the bottom screws, Y000 screwdriver for the display and battery connector shield, preferably a plastic pry tool/spider, suction cup, tweezers and of course the new lightning flex.

You will need to heat up the edges of the display to loosen the IP67 adhesive, then the lightning flex itself also has adhesive under it as well as the speaker and microphone.

Watch videos about how it’s done.
