I am desperate to get a complete, no interruption backup of my photos off my iPhone

Put it this way, my intention as a New Year's Resolution especially since I haven't had the phone that long, was when I transition from my old iPhone 6s, I natrually, up to that point, thought I had enough backups of my photos, that I would start with a clean slate, for the new iPhone (new year, new iPhone)

Since then I have way too many USB backup devices (and most likely cheap Chinese knockoffs) that keep giving me errors or not finishing completely or stopping halfway, I have at least nearly 7000 photos

(Yes I also have Google Photos and I backup to the cloud, but I like having them on my phone, as I said, if it worked out the way I originally intended, I would have had a clean slate, and then slowly added the one's I love, back onto the new iPhone over time)

But I don't know if it is the USB or the iPhone that is causing the error

I get an error message occasionally saying "External: open file error. path = / filename"

Is that an error with the photo, or the USB device or the iPhone itself?

Any help would be much appreciated
