so my friend gave me his old iphone to use as an ipod, it's a 2g, and it was working fine as an ipod, and i wanted to put more music on it so i plugged it in, and itunes said i had to restore it, so i did, and then when it was done restoring it said to put my sim card in and activate it, but i can't afford to have the iphone plan so i just wanna use it as ipod. but now it won't let me use it until i activate it. anyone know how to get around activating it? please help, i need my music ):

Go to an AT&T store and tell them you need a pre-paid SIM card. Since you're not using it as a phone, don't add a large amount. Do not bring your phone. If they ask, tell them you left the phone at home and will do the SIM activation when you get home.

What update is it on? You can jailbreak it with Redsn0w and it'll "hacktivate" the iPhone too.
